June Edition • Kellie's Favorite Things To Go See • Play • Eat • Use • Do In Metro Detroit
Who wants to meet me at the bronze bear fountain at the Detroit Zoo next month? These 90-degree temps are no joke, and as summer ramps up, one of my favorite places to explore right near my new home in Royal Oak is the ZOO. You can never be too old for the zoo…I dare you to disagree!
This summer, Winston (my french bulldog) and I have big plans to finish moving in and create a new community of friends in Royal Oak. While June is pretty much over, I put together a list of summer happenings that you should absolutely check out if you're in the metro Detroit area.
Here are this month’s 5 Favorite Things!
1. TO SEE: Detroit Zoo
A new baby lion named Bintee and a ton of other baby animals are on my bucket list to go see ASAP this summer. I love that it’s so close to my Royal Oak home and how well maintained this zoo is. It’s truly a local gem.
2. TO DO: Silent Disco Yoga at Beacon Park
City Glow Yoga is a feel-good, city-inspired yoga program that hosts an outdoor silent disco yoga event in Detroit’s Beacon Park happening July 5th. They’re “on a quest to build the largest silent disco yoga class in the city!” and I can’t wait to join in the fun. I absolutely love practicing yoga and find it’s one of the few “workouts” I always enjoy. Spaces are limited so hurry & snag a spot for yourself (and a partner) today!
3. TO PLAY: Backwoods & Bonfires Festival 2021
I’ve never been to this festival but I can’t help but be curious about how fun it sounds…July 31 the Backwoods & Bonfires festival will take place at the BNB Fairgrounds off 8 Mile. According to their FAQ section, it’s the “fastest-growing Music Festival in the midwest, featuring amazing performances from national acts, as well as, emerging local talent across various genres.” There will be 3 stages spread across 4 acres and I’m really interested in attending. Wanna go with me? Get tickets here.
4. TO EAT: Joe’s Grill in Royal Oak
Joe’s Grill might not look like much on the outside, but their Mediterranean food is so fresh and I find myself frequently getting carry-out from here. Conveniently located in downtown Royal Oak off Washington Ave., I really love supporting this local business. Try the fresh juices and build your own bowls - I promise there is something for everyone on the menu, and let me know if you like it!
5. TO USE: Customized Welcome Mat
As I work towards furnishing my new Royal Oak bungalow, I love adding personalized touches in every corner of my home. These customizable welcome mats are perfect for any new homeowner or make a great gift to bring to your next bridal shower ;) Plus, I love buying products off Etsy because I love knowing I am supporting a small business.
